V-STROM GETS SERIOUS OFF-ROAD UPGRADES
Suzuki has started to announce its 2023 model lineup , with the first model to break cover being the updated V-Strom 1050 . Set to be available in two variants in the first quarter of 2023 , the V-Strom 1050RR utilising the V-Strom ’ s classic cast alloy 19-inch and 17-inch wheelset while the new 1050DE model replaces the XT as the more off-road oriented bike . While the fundamentals of the big ‘ Strom remain the same with the continuation of the 1037cc V-twin powerplant , Suzuki has injected new technology into the platform as well as done the unthinkable by giving us a V-Strom with a 21-inch front wheel and longer travel suspension . But that ’ s not all . For 2023 the big V-Strom gets a number of big updates for both the standard and flagship models .
Key updates and improvements for the new bike include the move to a tubed 21-inch front wheel while retailing the tubeless 17-inch rear wheel on the DE model , TFT instrumentation , factory skid plate and ( finally ) switchable ABS and a gravel traction control mode as part of the six-axis IMU electronics package . At the centre remains Suzuki ’ s proven 90-degree V-twin powertrain which now comes with a bi-directional quickshifter for 2023 . Power remains the same 70kW and 100Nm as the outgoing XT model , but Suzuki has continued to refine its legendary V-twin to get the most out of it . For 2023 , in addition to the quickshifter , the 1050 ’ s engine gets hollow , sodium-filled exhaust valves , and taller 1st and 6th gears .
