Sand coloured with Black and Red highlights. To my eyes this is a way cooler look than traditional, boring, black stuff, which tends to get bloody hot in Summer.
THE LOW DOWN So, now to the‘ what’ s it really like bit’. Does it work and is it comfortable? Well, the truly outstanding feature is overall comfort. The soft yet strong feeling laminated layers mean the warmth, waterproofing and protection all fits together without bulk or rider restriction. It keeps you warm and dry without extra material hindering movement like gear with the liner inside the jacket, making for stiff bulky gear. Even the armour is well shaped and unobtrusive, keeping the bendy bits, like knees and elbows, well protected yet comfy all day long. In Melbourne, I rode all day in showers and rain in the Macedon Mountains area. In the evening it was dark, raining, windy and 4-degrees. Google said this could make it feel anywhere between-3 and-12 degrees with wind chill – so, yes, bloody cold. While I can’ t say I was‘ toasty’ all day, I was comfortable
enough despite only wearing a T-shirt under the suit. I put that down as a top result. The tech says it is 26,000 Schmerber’ s( water resistance level – very high) and 20,000 MVTR( breathability – very high). Which all means you don’ t get wet or steam up.
GLOVES I also used the sand / black coloured IXON Gravel Air Gloves that are fantastic- excellent protection and comfort yet without restrictive bulk, allowing superb feel. The best I have used with no break-in period, end of story. For genuinely cold and wet conditions the IXON PRO Ragnar gloves are the way forward. Yes, there is some bulk, but feel is still decent. This is simply a fact of life if you don’ t want painful hands, like blocks of ice, when riding in crap weather. Okay, so electric grips do alleviate most issues, but if it is super cold, quality warm gloves as well are still the winner. Over the years, I have ridden in all sorts of gear, some very expensive, but this is the first time I’ ve used IXON kit. And, hand-onheart, it is awesome gear. You can buy it with confidence.
