After a career-first win at the iconic Dakar Rally earlier this year, Sanders then proceeded to win every subsequent round except for the final round in Morocco, but it was close. A third place on the opening prologue was then followed by victory on stage one. The remaining four days of racing saw Sanders locked in an intensely fought battle for the rally lead with closest rival Tosha Schareina who would go on to win the rally( and who came second to Sanders in the Dakar earlier in January). Going into the final day, Daniel trailed Schareina by less than three minutes, but despite his best efforts, he wasn’ t quite able to clinch the win. Completing the fifth and final round of the season in second,‘ Chucky’ capped off his record-breaking season with a podium for his efforts. Of the 37 stages raced this year, Sanders topped the timesheets in no fewer than 16 of them – an incredible accomplishment that is testament to his skill and determination.
