OK, so he may hark from the other side of the pond but young Australian ace, Senna Agius just put the Moto2 field on notice, winning backto-back races. Jerez showed that he is a deadly serious contender for the crown, as well as catching the eye of potential options in the MotoGP arena. Qualifying well and making a break with two other riders, his teammate Manuel Gonzalez and pole sitter Collin Veijer, the trio had a great battle until Agius hit the front and slowly but steadily eked out a gap. That gap was, in Moto2 terms, substantial, but in fact was only 0.8 seconds at the flag, such is the nature of the class that all use the same Triumph 765cc engine. The result sees Agius in second place as the whole MotoGP circus heads to Le Mans, France for the next round. The gap to his teammate, Gonzalez, is now only 9.5 points – the‘ point five’ due to a reduced race prior and those fractions of points might be valuable as he fends off his teammate from Downunder.
VESPA CELEBRATES 80 YEARS
Born out of post-war Italy in 1946, Vespa was part of the effort to lift the country back onto its feet, restore national pride and give Italians a stylish and affordable means of transport. The plucky Vespa did all of those things and was soon seen as one of Italy’ s style icons, garnering favour with fashion houses, actors and artists alike. To the regular people in the street, it was independence, lifestyle and identity. For the rest of the world, it became an Italian masterpiece all could afford and many wanted. With over 160 models since that first foray, Vespa has lost none of its appeal and has doggedly retained the core styling that has seen it thrive for eighty years. The good news for Kiwi Vespa fashionistas is the 80th Anniversary special livery Primavera Livrea and GTS Livrea will land here in NZ in a month or two. Numbers will be limited so best whisper nice things to your local dealer and try to get one booked in your name as they won’ t sit in the showroom for long enough to get any dust. In fact, most probably won’ t get the chance to pose in the showroom at all.
