Kaipara Lady Riders. The venison burgers and homemade‘ warm out the oven’ savoury scones were just a couple of the highlights. Saturday’ s ride was all new ground for me. I left early to open the route, so had the roads to myself. There was a fantastic range of gravel roads from wide, fast roads to narrow, twisting single lanes. We went from Mangawhai, weaving our way over to and around the Kaipara Harbour, then up to Dargaville. Most folks stopped off here for lunch but I just splashed and dashed as I was on a mission to head back east on the route to get to the forest section and get forestry gates etc open. The private forest section was fun riding with surprisingly spectacular views over Waipu Cove and Bream Bay. After a day of great weather a few of us got caught in heavy showers right at the end but that was quickly forgotten back at the event finish as we all sat down again to eat and share the day’ s stories. A top weekend of riding. Ian Ganderton
