Horace and his beloved partner Lisa faced his cancer with the sort of stoic fortitude and positive thinking that no one else I ’ ve ever met could raise . The odds of success were miniscule , but there was the tiniest glimpse of hope in it , so Horace took those odds and beat them . With Lisa and his children alongside - brave as Jesus . I well remember him priming me prior to a hospital visit , that he looked like Squiddly- Diddly and not to be too concerned - and he bloody did - and in spite of the horror , we giggled . He had tubes and pipes and patches and pumps attached to him like the cyborg from ALIEN . Even in those dark hours he kept his sense of humour .
