REVIEW
anything to it , it ’ s just sat there doing its job through river crossings , dusty roads and flooded 4WD ruts . “ Really , I ’ d say the only thing I could criticise is if the flow rate is too high then it flicks oil everywhere - but that ’ s up to the rider . It takes a little while to find a perfect setting and dial it in , but once I ’ d done that , I don ’ t get any oil fling at all . In the last year I ’ ve had one malfunction where it wouldn ’ t turn off - even with the engine off , it was lubing - and the only reason I knew it was doing this was because the display said it was still lubing , which is another benefit of the display . I disconnected it from the battery and connected it again , it ’ s been rock solid since .”
THE LOW DOWN The chain and sprockets that came on the bike when Doug bought it were just over 50 % worn already . We fitted the oiler at 38,940km and the bike ’ s now just ticked over 54,000km . That ’ s another 15,000km out of them ( and finished the 250ml bottle of oil that came with it , which is about how long it ’ s meant to last ). The chain and sprockets would have still been going , but Doug had to replace the chain because of a rock getting into it , destroying a link ( the link was very tight and the roller was completely missing ), as well as taking a tooth off the rear sprocket . As he was replacing the chain anyway , he decided to do the whole lot and get new sprockets too - with a gearing change to make tricky , first-gear 4WD track riding easier . At that rate we reckon he ’ d get a minimum of 40,000km out of a new set of chain and sprockets . We ’ ll let you know how the new set goes - but it might take a while .
