MARC MARQUEZ HITS 100TH HOME RUN
Joining that illustrious duo of racers with
100 GP wins, Marc Marquez makes it three, joining Agostini and Rossi( albeit begrudgingly by a certain # 46). For MM93 fans, it was bigger than Christmas, for the Rossi fans, yes, he dared join the two Italian greats – and he is still winning. The rivalry of the fans is one of the sport’ s great battles, even with their, umm, relationship aside, but no matter which way you lean, there is simply no denying the amazing talent that is Marc Marquez. Even though Marquez is still winning, untouchable when not injured, he will have to wait another year to actually surpass Valentino in title wins – and be the greatest of the era. It is a little like comparing apples with pears going back to the days where riders could ride in multiple classes, as epic and astounding as it was. In the modern era where you only race in one class, Rossi and Marquez-the-elder reign supreme.
Will Marquez topple Rossi’ s record? You have to look at what he has been through with injuries, racing with one arm virtually tied behind his back with a rogue screw from a previous injury shutting down power to one arm and he still won races. He was out due to the panel-beaters having to straighten his arm and replace the screws and plate and he still came back and won. His motivation? You’ d have to think one of the strongest-minded riders off all time wants to be‘ THE’ best, not‘ one of’ the best, so will he be able to fend off the likes of Martin, Bezzecchi and the super-talented youngster, Pedro Acosta, and win another FIM MotoGP title? His latest dice with Acosta showed he has the pace, and to be honest, he took a leaf out of Rossi’ s book and went to great lengths to try and get inside Acosta’ s head. Did it work? Nope. Will # 93 win another title? Hard to bet against.
