Lucas Coenen went 1-1-1 in the South African round, extending his lead in the title race to 68 points – more than a round. Terra Topia is not far from Johannesburg and is a spectacular circuit. Freshly formed, the riders had to learn the elevation changes and lines fast as they raced a GP in South Africa for the first time in nearly twenty years. The 19-year-old Belgian phenom has opened a chasm between himself and second place, a position filled by a certain Jeffry Herlings. Still, there are a bunch of tough battles between now and the title ceremony so Coenen knows that he has to stay quick and clean with no mistakes in the cruel sort where one slip by himself or someone nearby can affect his season. At 19 it is hard to fathom the maturity both he and twin sibling Sasha have both on and off the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing machines. Are we going to see the twins take twin crowns?.
TRIUMPH GOES 1-1-1 IN MX2
Triumph was in a class of its own in Portugal, scoring the perfect score with Guillem Farres dominating proceedings. A fantastic qualifying helped with gate choice and despite not leading into the first turn, he was leading coming out of Turn 2. From there, nobody had an answer to his pace on the hard Portuguese ground. In what was a flawless display, Farres extended his gap from there and without the pressure of any riders on his shoulder, it was line-perfect all the way to the flag. Race 2 was even better, scoring the holeshot and the win. Not only was it a perfect day for Farres, he took a bite out of Sasha Coenen’ s lead at the top of the table, much to the delight of his Triumph crew.
