MOTOGP ' S MIKE WEBB CHANGES ROLES
Former racer, motorcycle shop owner, grand prix mechanic, MotoGP Technical Director and, for the last 25 years, MotoGP Race Director, Mike Webb has changed roles. Webb is now the Race Direction Coordinator, a new role in MotoGP. There have been massive changes in Webb ' s time. We well remember the affable Webb telling Kiwi Rider in the early 2000s how his role as technical director had changed so much in the last few years. This is not Webb retiring but, after attending every GP since 1997, we hope life gets a little quieter for the Kiwi. The new MotoGP Race Director is Graham Webber.
KING REIGNS SUPREME IN ASBK SUPERSPORT 300
New Zealand ' s Tyler King has ended the
35-year wait for a Kiwi Australian national road racing champion, clinching the ASBK Supersport 200 title at Queensland Raceway. The 19-year-old from Silverdale delivered an impressive season, scoring 10 podium finishes before heading into the final round trailing rival Riley Nauta by four points. After Nauta dominated the previous round, the championship battle went down to the wire, but King produced a composed, determined performance to secure the title. The victory sparked celebrations in the King camp, with father Shawn, mother Vicky and mechanic Gavin Veltmeyer sharing the emotional moment after months of hard work and dedication. King ' s breakthrough season has already attracted attention, with reports he has secured a Stop and Seal-backed ride in next year ' s ASBK Supersport Next GenChampionship. The achievement is particularly significant, as the last New Zealander to win an Australian national road racing title was Aaron Slight, who claimed the Australian Superbike crown 35 years ago.
