Heated grips that are easy as hell to install ? We didn ’ t see that coming ...
Ah , heated grips . That warming , glowing temptress keeping the frost away on cold rides throughout the year ( and even better when accompanied with some bar muffs ... yes , I am that rider ). I had always thought heated grips were a faff . A pain to install , too thick for proper control of the bike ( I ’ d dabbled in a little racing and wanted the thinnest Renthal grips I could wrap my fingers around ) and for what , just warming the palms of my hands ? Nah , they weren ’ t for me . It wasn ’ t until many years later , riding a BMW R1150GS Adventure to the wilds of Scotland in the winter that I became a convert . BMW ’ s grips were thin , easily adjusted and they came fitted already . And it meant I could wear my thin race-style gloves for much of the year . I was converted . Except I wasn ’ t . Not in general . Most aftermarket grips were too thick , needed glue to hold them in place and weren ’ t actually all that ‘ heated ’. My own BMW R80GS has some heated grips - and one of them is hotter than the other and that other slips a bit , so I have to sort that out . But ... and it ’ s a big but ... they ’ ve made cold
