Coming fitted with Continental ’ s classic TKC80 rubber as standard , the GasGas ES700 can get to a lot of places . But I ’ ve been wanting to get further off the beaten track and into tougher riding . On my last big trip down South , my riding buddy Doug and I wanted to explore places needing more extreme grip - but not completely compromise our bikes on-road manners . I ’ d seen Pirelli ’ s MT21 recommended a few times , so fitted one to the front for the trip .

If you take a look at the picture you ’ ll see the knobs are narrower and spaced further apart than on the TKC80 . Pirelli bills the MT21 as a 10 % Road , 90 % Off-road tyre , so I was excited to try it on the dirt but not quite so eager for the road . I needn ’ t have worried , fully-loaded over the course of 3500km , it proved to ride well on the seal in both the dry and wet with very little squirming when pushing on - thanks , I think , to the double width tread blocks across the
