STARS AT RUAPUNA – AND SOME RACING LEGENDS OF THE HUMAN KIND...
Head to Ruapuna over the wekend of Jan
31 – Feb 1 and see none other than a certain Mr Aaron Slight, no doubt grinning like a Cheshire cat under his helmet as he unleashes the Yamaha YZR that Simon Crafar took to the Donington Grand Prix win in 1998. As Slighty said,“ It howls, it screams, and I love it!” Slight and Crafar both took the racing scene by storm in the same era, firmly planting the Kiwi footstep into that hallowed ground by showing just how quick Kiwis can be. Watch one of our all-time greats let his hair down and entertain you. And he has not lost that‘ Slight Advantage’ he always had. Also smiling hard-out and adding another exotic bike to his‘ yep, I have ridden one of those’ list is multi NZ Champ, Dennis Charlett, this time throwing( carefully) a leg over a Britten. Always great to see one of the planet’ s
most iconic motorcycles cut a few laps, it is great to see Dennis fulfill that wish. Also in the pits is a motorcycle restored by legendary GP tuner, Paul Treacy. This is the ex- Garry McCoy Yamaha YZR500. Yep, the bike ridden by the King Of Slide. If you are too young to recognise all the machines and names, do yourself a favour and search the web for videos, take a seat, strap in and enjoy. It will be truly educational.
