from a prior race, so now has a 50 point deficit to pull back – but there is a lot to play out for the Ninjas. Experienced veteran Scott Findlay heads the Hyosung Cup from young speedster Cadel Finlay; while Alyssa Boyd capped a fine day by heading the Ladies Cup points. As challenging as the weather was, it was a mighty start to the season.
ROUND TWO Held on October 19 on the Hampton Downs National Circuit, the action opened for Round 2. Rogan Chandler( S1000RR) and Ashton Hughes( Daytona 675) joined the Senior field, and it was the BMW’ s of Chandler and Luca Durning who were fastest in Formula Auckland. Chandler was the only rider to dip into the 1:04’ s; with Durning( S1000RR), Ray Clee( GSX-R1000) and Dave Sharp( CBR1000RR-R) all in the 1:05’ s. Fastest in SuperSport 600 was Cameron Leslie( KTM RC8C) who was lapping in the 1:06’ s. Chandler then went on to take the first two Senior wins, with Durning out in Race One, and out for the day. Chandler then DNF’ ed Race Three, so the Formula Auckland action came from Clee and Sharp, who were never far apart all day – and they would finish tied for first on points for the Round, at 81 each. Cameron Leslie has found something with the KTM, and scooped four wins in SuperSport 600, with the strongest competition on the day
coming from Jesse Stroud( ZX-6R), however a DNF in Race One hurt Stroud’ s progress, with Ashton Hughes( Daytona 675) up there too. Ian Reed( S1000RR) continued his charge in Formula Auckland B( 1:09’ s). Zak Fuller( CBR650RR) was clinical in the Intermediate category, claiming four wins outright, and leading SuperLite from the GSX- 8R’ s of Jesse Stroud and Ray Clee, with Nick Kampenhout( Vitpilen 701) also on the pace. Karl Kampenhout( Aprilia 660) has taken the SuperTwin points lead, in the absence of Nixon Frost. The ProTwin 650 class had over 20 bikes on the grid, with Cameron Leslie( YZF-R7) and Tyler King( YZF-R7) sharing the wins, and battles continuing right through the class. The points were close, and the top Suzuki SV650’ s of Azlan Blackwell and Scott Findlay continued to keep the newer machinery honest. The Sidecar field was a little light on numbers, but Phillip Law & Angus Ravenwood on their BMW 1000 powered rig kept things entertaining, engaging in some spirited dicing with Peter Goodwin & George Vennell( LCR 1000), before easing out to take four wins on the day, gaining a healthy points margin. In Junior, Alyssa Boyd( GT250R) and Troy Fowles( GT250R) shared the ProLite 250 spoils, with Boyd retaining a small lead over Nick Trigger( GT250R) in the overall points.
