next phone came along - the iPhone 12 Pro - reports were common and the newer phone camera units were failing with disconcerting frequency . At roughly the same time Quadlock announced its Vibration Dampener to combat this vibration death on the newer , more sophisticated camera stabilisation modules . Fearing my two-year streak of not having a camera failure was probably coming to an end , I bought the Dampener before I started using the new phone . That phone was on the bike for two years and never missed a beat . The Dampener ’ s three rubber legs clearly did their job . I ’ ve sinced had a phone upgrade to an iPhone 14 Pro , which has been on the bike for almost a year now and I ’ ve not had a problem with the camera .
ROAD AND DIRT
At this point I ’ ve used my phones on the bike for five years and with the Vibration Dampener for three years . I ’ ve ridden everything from inline fours like the Hayabusa on a lap of the South Island , thumping singles like the GasGas ES700 on gravel and adventure trail rides , and on my old BMW for tens of thousands of kilometres of road and gravel . I don ’ t worry about the camera module now , I just swap the Quadlock mount and dampener from bike to bike as needed . On the Hayabusa I fitted the Fork Stem Mount Pro - which is a beautifully machined bit of metalwork and on bikes with traditional bars I ’ ve been using the Handlebar Mount Pro .
