COME SAY HI Do yourself a favour and get along for a ride or even just come along to watch. This is true grass roots NZ cross-country racing and it’ s a series that has helped mould some of the best off road riders we’ ve seen in the last 20 years. The atmosphere is great and it’ s a series to build life long friendships( and rivalries). See you at round two!
FANCY A GO? THIS IS HOW IT WORKS The races are held in Woodhill Forest in Auckland, handily only an hour-ish from the CBD. There is a junior race in the morning at9.00am. The junior is a 2-hour duration for teams and for solo classes. The laps are approximately 8-10km long or around 15-20 minutes long.
This is followed by the senior race in the afternoon, starting at midday. The senior race is of 3-hours total duration for teams and for solo classes. There is also a senior 2-hour intermediate solo class that runs at the same time. For seniors, the tracks are 16km long or 25 – 35 mins long depending on riding ability. They are generally flowing single trails in pine trees with a rolling contour. There is a brand-new, fresh track made for each event marked out with orange arrows. There is no mass start. Riders are grouped into classes. Each class starts in grids of five riders, with a flag waved to send them off. Each grid leaves 30 seconds apart. Expert riders go from the first few grids, and novice riders start off towards the rear grids, so riders are in groups of similar ability heading onto the track.
