lower-speed grunt than the MX platform , Yamaha has developed an ECU specifically for the task of offering tractability at low speeds and high power at medium to fast speeds . Over in the drivetrain , the new WR450 runs the new YZ450F lightweight disc spring clutch which is more compact , has a lighter feel and has a more positive engagement point . It wouldn ’ t be a WR without the wide-ratio fivespeed gearbox , and this now features wider main shaft gears for reduced weight and increased strength . According to Yamaha , the ratios were specifically developed for enduro racing . The Controlled-Fill aluminium bilateral beam frame is now 15mm lower at the head tube to allow a lower centre of gravity . The chassis also has a revised rigidity balance developed specifically for the WR450F . The frame was developed with a focus on flex characteristics and the engine mounts are specially tuned for the WR to allow excellent cornering , bump absorption and overall handling . A new compact fuel tank features a larger lower area and lower fuel pump location and a shorter YZ450F-type muffler further increasing mass centralisation . In the suspension department , Yamaha has opted for revised KYB suspension . This features handy tool-free compression damping adjustment on top of the forks . Travel is listed as 300mm , yet the WR450F manages to measure the bush . Powering the 2024 WR450F is the same engine as found within the frame of the YZ450F . It features a set of larger 39mm-diameter intake valves , a new piston , conrod , big end , revised bearings , optimised crank mass inertia and a dry sump oil tank with an integrated generator cover . Thanks to small weight savings across numerous components , the result is an engine that ’ s 1.1 kg lighter than the previous model . With the Enduro-focused WR needing more
