Kiwi Rider November 2024 Vol.2 | Page 55

The last two bikes I managed to get a small amount of time on were the two 450 Enduro models . In a perfect world , I would have the WR engine package inside the FX package . I mean the engine looks the same so I don ’ t see why this wish couldn ’ t come to fruition , right ? I enjoy a smooth power delivery and the WR ticks all those boxes , especially for off-road , enduro and trail riding . For an XC bike , I think the FX is still too aggressive off the bottom . It ’ s quite snappy and needs some good throttle control to navigate tricky terrain . But on the flip side , it feels super-light . The trail loop on the day was dry and hard packed , which didn ’ t translate well for the 450FX . Perhaps in the depth of a sand track or loamy situation , the snappy delivery of the FX wouldn ’ t be so noticeable . Whereas in comparison , the WR found exceptional drive and grip on the dry track and just felt easier to ride across a wide range of conditions due to its smooth , linear power delivery . The WR feels really easy to ride , that is , until you make a mistake . The extra weight of the WR is noticeable when needing to pull the bike up really quickly , or making quick changes left to right . This is where the FX inches ahead in the control department .

ALL NEW WR250F

On paper anyway , Yamaha looks to have produced the best WR250F yet . Taking all the chassis goodness from the YZ250F , this model WR is said to be quicker through the turns , while being confidence-inspiring and giving a higher level of grip from both ends . If all that is true then sign me up for a ride when it gets to NZ .
