straps on the OS bags was the same as the US bags , but I took a punt and my old US-10 bags fit neatly . They ’ re just a bit of a pain to mount and unmount because the straps have to be threaded through the base , rather than very easy to use the aluminium hook and loop system the new bags have . I ’ ve got a couple of options for the top bag . I can use my US-30 for longer trips where I need more space or my old US-20 using the spare strap kit Kriega sells - with the easy connect aluminium hooks . So far I ’ ve fitted a weekend ’ s worth of gear , including a tent , sleeping bag , roll mat , compressor , spare tube and clothes into the 20 on the top and two 10s on the side .
BIKE SPECIFIC Since I bought my universal mount OS-Base I ’ ve spied a model specific OS-Base designed to fit the ES700 / 690 / 701 models . At $ 359 it includes the heel plates and bike specific mounting hardware . It looks like the side bags are held a little higher , and the rear facing edge of the OS-Base is kept a little tighter to stop them flapping by the additional mounting strap - although I ’ ve not noticed a problem on the universal mount . The current set up works well for me , so I don ’ t see the need to get the bike specific kit , although if I was starting from scratch I ’ d probably go for it .
