WHY I RIDE ...

After nine years of being a pillion , Kelly Jenkins from Christchurch got her motorcycle licence when she turned 45 , started racing at 49 and is now Canterbury Director of Ducati Official Club New Zealand . She tells Kiwi Rider about her love of bikes and the motorcycle community .

How did you get into motorcycling ? “ I was a pillion passenger on my partner ’ s Ducati for nine years before I finally bit the bullet and decided to ride myself . We had great fun on his bike because he ’ s a brilliant rider and I loved being on the back . I found I was wanting to go out more and more , so he encouraged me to get my licence and now I ’ ve been riding for five
years . He ’ s been amazing , he got me a little WORDS : Tara Papworth dirt bike to learn gear changes and then a wee

Do you still ride pillion ? “ No . Like a lot of riders , when they get their licence they ’ re off ! Often I say goodbye to him at 9am on a Saturday and I ’ m gone for the day .
