MORONEY
FUEL OF THE FUTURE
Words: Roger Moroney
Forget electric, the power bill is going up. Moroney has a big plan for... magnets.
I
saw an electric car today. I knew it was electric
because it was embarrassingly quiet and
looked like it had been designed by three
children under lockdown who had nothing better
to do. Horrid.
I smiled when I looked at the latest power bill,
which (again) indicated someone in a smart suit
is making a lot of money, and later gassed up the
car for a petrol price we would have scoffed at
a year ago. Crikey boys and girls... I fired in $20
worth but got about $27 worth as the litre price
was barely $1.58.
Electricity? Going through the roof.
But anyway, this conundrum of power creation
and appropriate costing got me thinking. And
that is a fine and dandy thing as one has to
do something when the door to employment
is closed off.
Yes, I am on the pension only now. Job gone...
and cheap lager’s the new stronghold.
At this point in time, I have to acknowledge the
camaraderie and support of chaps like Sir Peter
McPhee who told me a fortnight ago that while
he is sober I will always have a letterbox to post my
columns to. So, on that note, I figure I have about
seven hours left.
So on that note... where the hell was I? Oh yes,
sitting here with an ale in one hand, a peanut
butter sandwich in the other, and somehow still
managing to get this typed while Sir Peter is
sober. Some would suggest I am using my head,
but I defer. You only use your head when you have
to get a hat fitted. Or a helmet... good heavens...
finally a nod toward motorcycling.
So on that note (again) I was dwelling upon the
electric car, scooter, bike, heated towel rail or
whatever pretext and came up with a motive
system no one has recognised or replied, yet.
It works, it is free, and costs nothing to create.
For it is there. All around us... and working away
as it has done since this planet we have effectively
wrecked and brought to its knees was created.
I had a dream. I dreamed I had built a machine
that ran on this so often unrealised component
and that I made lots of money.
I made $11.70. But hey, when one’s employment
