I BOUGHT ONE

Since purchasing a BSA Gold Star in mid-July

2024 , I ’ ve clocked over 11,000 kilometres . With my third service approaching soon , I can confidently say this motorcycle has been a genuine joy to ride . My daily ride to work includes every possible type of riding situation : 2km of gravel / dirt road , 34km of twisty roads and 114km of motorway for a total of 150km per day . As this is my primary vehicle , I ride in all weather : rain , fog , high wind and , every now and again , sunshine . It all starts at 06:45 am as I wheel the BSA out of the garage . I start it up and let it idle before I ride . The road has been recently prepped for grading , so golf ball-sized gravel is spilled all over the place . The BSA ’ s suspension takes it in stride , and while the road tyres do their best on the loose surface , the bike never feels unstable . The lack of traction control can bring a smile to your face if you want it to . A kilometre later , I turn onto the main road heading for Parakai . There I get to open up the BSA in plenty of twisties , a couple of good straights and little to no traffic . Cornering the BSA is good ( not great but good ) and it switches direction with ease . Fifth gear gives plenty of pull to overtake and it happily sits at 100km / h . Next is the turn onto SH16 all the way to SH1 . The trip to Kumeu is the best part of SH16 ( unless I take the Old North Road ) as it is free-
