YAMAHA MT-07

B eing one of the new bloods here at KR , I can ’ t talk to you about the 1974 XL250 or anything quite so historic and interesting like that , as I ’ ve been riding for 10 years on the road and 15 years on the dirt . But what I can talk to you about is the Yamaha MT-07 . Two of them have been my daily rides for the past six years .

NZ NEW I actually bought one of the first MT- 07s in New Zealand , back when they were released in late 2013 . It was a LAMS model and a fantastic bike to learn on . Back then I was on my learner license and was looking for something that would last me a long time and do ‘ everything ’. And last me well it did . I did 40,000km on my first MT-07 , but sold it
while I was looking to upgrade to an MT-09 . I didn ’ t do quite enough research ... and upon realising how much secondhand MT-09s were fetching I had a brief foray with a Honda CRF250L . When it was stolen , just some four weeks after buying it , I bought another 2014 MT-07 LAMS , which I ’ ve only just sold . If you ’ re a listener of the Kiwi Rider Podcast you ’ ll know what ’ s replaced it in the Heron stable .
TRUSTY AND RELIABLE The Yamaha MT-07 does have its draw backs , most noticeably the bouncy forks and disposable rear suspension monoshock . But those issues aside , I ’ ve found the MT-07 to be a brilliant machine for a number of reasons . Firstly , there is a massive aftermarket
