Accessories website called the Ergo Seat . Promising to pop straight onto the bike and offer better comfort for long journeys , it also doesn ’ t increase the seat height , which is already a whopping 940mm . The Seat Concepts products are well reviewed , but are around NZ $ 800 including shipping and , as I said earlier , they don ’ t make one anyway ( although I see they now list a kit to convert your own seat base , which is something to explore in another issue of the mag ). GasGas ’ Ergo Seat is $ 358 ( inc GST ) in comparison . I figured it could turn out to be a decent , cheaper , alternative .
SITTING PRETTY ? First things first , this is plug and play as you might expect from a GasGas accessory . Fitting is as easy as taking off the old seat and popping on the new one . Easiest thing I ’ ve ever

installed . The seat cover seems really well made , with embossed GasGas and 700 logos , as well as bright red contrasting stitching adding to the premium look . With my yet to be patented ‘ press with the fingers ’ test , it feels slightly softer . The material is smoother than the original seat which has a rougher texture to it . My first real test of the new seat , other than some trips around town , was a 500km weekend round trip through the Porika 4WD Track and Braeburn Track to Reefton and back . The seat of my pants tells me it ’ s significantly more comfortable . Where 100km was the previous point at which I ’ d start to wriggle around a little to ease pressure points , 200-250km seems to be that point with the new seat , for my butt anyway . It ’ s no wider than the stock seat , which is something some of you might be looking for , but it does spread your weight a little better so pressure points don ’ t build up so quickly . I had been concerned that the smoother textured black seat material would stain quite easily and be more prone to scuffs from dirty boots scraping over it when getting on and off the bike . So far it ’ s come up nicely when washing the bike . It does hold a bit of water after standing out in decent rain , which is the only downside so far At $ 358 I ’ d say the Ergo seat does a good job for a decent price . Obviously , bums can vary , and , as such , your mileage may vary . For me it ’ s comfortable enough for a tank of fuel in one hit when sat down most of the time , which for a big enduro bike is a decent improvement on the standard seat . BEN WILKINS
