Australia has a genuine motorcycle manufacturer in the form of Savic Motorcycles. Founded in 2016 by Dennis Savic, the electric motorcycle brand has been diligently working away at developing a real-world motorcycle that avoids much of the compromise seen in the past. Sure, it is aimed at the urban market but not at the lowpowered end of the game. The Savic team has used top Australian racers to help develop the frame and suspension to tackle the streets like an ICE machine. Styling is a very cool take on modern retro, so think café racer but with an electric powerplant. In the latest move, Savic have fast-forwarded the whole concept by bringing to bear an extremely switched on board and executive team with experience, contacts and some serious financial backers to motor past the usual delay from small-scale and prototype to modern manufacturing facilities and marketing.
Another handy addition to testing comes with board non-executive chair, Nick Adamo. Adamo is one of Australia’ s most avid automotive advisors and is also an avid collector. A former Deloitte and EY partner, he mentors a number of tech businesses and just happens to own Australia’ s only private racetrack. Joining Adamo is a list of innovators, investors and enthusiasts who are driven to see this Australian motorcycle brand get up and running on their fast-track plan. Dennis remains in control of his business but the support he has lined up beside him means the business is expected to run at a profit from the first production models running out the door. The combined experience brought to bear on the project covers some of the most prestigious motoring and racing brands in the world. When we will have access to the Australian machines is yet to be sorted but we wait patiently – or not.
