HERLINGS UNTOUCHABLE IN THE NETHERLANDS
Jeffrey Herlings qualified fastest and simply stayed fastest for the entire round in the rough sand of Arnhem. Keeping his kit clean, he led from gate to flag in both motos, simply dominating in the sand. At the end of the round he did admit to finding it tougher than it used to be, laughing about never getting tired as an 18 year-old but feeling the effects now. Herlings now has 110 GP wins, with 16 being on home sand. Although still well behind in the season standings, he is very much making his presence felt as he returns to the fray. Meanwhile, his fellow KTM rider Lucas Coenen had a more challenging time. Making things harder for himself, his starts were well less than ideal. He fought tooth and nail to get back to the front and, largely, he succeeded. Crashing at the first turn after qualifying fourth, Coenen returned to the racing buried in the pack. In what turned into a pass-fest, he came back to claim second in the first moto and in the
88 KIWI RIDER second, he was closing in on Herlings after making his way up from a mid-field start but to no avail. Herlings was in no mood to be caught at his home round. As recoveries go, scoring a pair of second places was an excellent result for the young Belgian star. It also closed the gap to Romain Febvre in the title hunt.
