Next morning my partner climbed on the back and we took off into the city to join up with the Distinguished Gentleman’ s Ride and I never really noticed she was there. This version of the Interceptor engine has loads of torque and will fly off the line, it was great up and around Wellington’ s narrow hilly streets. I was having a blast playing up and down through the gearbox as I headed up Tinokori Road, Kelburn Viaduct and over the Terrace to the start point near Te Papa. On the DGR itself, around the Wellington Bays, we came across all sorts of rough roads, but the Bear was a pleasant ride amongst a wide mix of bikes. On the way back to the Hutt, we were blasting along the motorway with an unusual mix of cool bikes; a Harley 1200 dirt bike with XR600-type front end, a Yamaha VX800 Café Racer, a Suzuki GT750 Waterbus, plus an RD400 two-stroke. The Bear
650 was not out of place at all, adding a cool Scrambler rumble to the vibe. Yes, I own an Interceptor, but how good is the Bear? Well, simple... I want one.
