ROAD NEWS
Tracy, arrived with the van to pick me up but had no idea of the speed. For some reason it hadn’ t been announced on air as usual. We went off to collect the timing slip but it was cut off at the 2-1 / 4 speed, the three mile speed was missing. The timing slip lady checked and that was all there was in her computer, so she sent us to talk to the course starter. He didn’ t know what had happened, but said if we talked to the inspectors in impound we might be able to re-run- not ideal but better than having to qualify again. At impound they spoke to the timing team who somehow found the missing time and were able to produce a handwritten timing slip like they used to do pre computer days. Words can’ t describe the feeling of getting that time and finding out it was 188.700mph- good enough to take the record with an average speed of 188.146mph( 302.792kmh)! There were huge smiles all round, lots of back slapping and hugs from all the Kiwis, a great moment. The tech guys did all their checks to make sure the bike was legal for the class;, everything was good, job done. I ' d like to say a massive thanks to Harris Family Racing, Shrappy’ s Originals, BRM Dyno, Bell Helmets, Pirelli, and the individuals who’ ve helped me along the way; in particular Pippa, Chris, Linc, Lesley, Rob, Kit, Duane, Kev, Ferg, Shayne and Tracy.
