Kiwi Rider October Vol.2 2025 | Page 30

outlet of Lake Matiri on the DOC access track. The Matiri Hydro Station Project, which is a run-of-river hydro-electric scheme takes water from a series of intake weirs in the lake and pipes it through a 2.4km long pipeline to a power station. The ride up was fantastic, through native forest over a soft, sandy track,
that offered a bit of a challenge, and the outlet is well worth hunting out. Sign-out from the ride was back down the track at the DOC gate, where we could all make our ways home. This was a cracking ride in good company and seems to be typical of the rides Dave is trying to offer. Head to the kohatumc. co. nz website for upcoming rides- one that looks particularly special is his three-day ride in March 2026, taking in three private stations across the Clarence Valley, with a heap of fantastic access. Get in early or miss out, I reckon.
