BMW UPDATES S1000RR
BMW ’ s S1000RR comes out of the pits HOT with more power , refined chassis and better electronics for 2023 . Starting with the engine , BMW has boosted power on the 2022 model by 3hp , putting the total to 210hp at 13,750 rpm while torque peaks at 113Nm at 11,000 rpm . BMW says that in addition to the higher output , the usable range of power is also broader on the 2023 model compared to the ‘ 22 . As you ’ d want on a superbike , the rev limiter kicks in not too long after peak power is achieved with a rev ceiling of 14,600rpm . The heart of the chassis of the new RR is still the aluminium bridge frame , which is a welded construction of four gravity die-cast elements and integrates the engine . As before the engine is inclined forward by 32 degrees and acts as a supporting element . With the aim of optimising flexibility laterally , the main frame of the new RR was given several openings in the side areas . The focus was also on further increasing riding precision when developing the new chassis of the RR . As a result , the steering head angle has been flattened out by 0.5 ° and the offset of the triple clamps reduced by 3mm . The new chassis geometry is accompanied not only by even better riding precision but also by increased
accuracy and clearer feedback from the front wheel . BMW has also updated the bike ’ s electronics to make use of a steering head sensor for a greater degree of control . That means BMW has been able to integrate Slide Control into the Dynamic Traction Control system . This allows the rider to select two preset drift angles for the traction control system when accelerating out of corners . Up to that predetermined leaning angle , the traction control system allows slippage at the rear wheel when accelerating out of a bend , enabling the rider to more easily put the rear wheel into a drift . When the preset steering angle value is reached , traction control intervenes , reduces slip and stabilises the motorcycle . Visually the S1000RR moves closer to the premium M1000RR with a redesigned front fairing including functional winglets for improved downforce . Other new features include a lightweight M battery as standard , a revised wiring harness that allows for easier removal of the shorter numberplate mount , plus an official GoPro mount for the bike as part of the official accessories catalogue . Pricing and New Zealand availability are yet to be announced at the time of writing .
