At the end of the weekend, Alex Lowes had reduced his gap to Montella by three points to 43, but Sam dropped a point to the Barni Spark man, leaving him trailing by 50 points with two rounds remaining. Assuming Bulega and Lecuona continue their run of results and take out first and second in all remaining races, there are 78 points on the table for finishing third, so, whilst he’ s not secured his place yet, Montella has to be the favourite to take out the independent rider’ s title and third in the overall championship. But … he needs to stop crashing. Montella’ s teammate Alvaro Bautista, still without a ride for 2027, had another dismal outing with 10th in Race One his only scoring finish. A crash in the Sprint Race and a technical issue resulting in a Race Two DNF really hurting his weekend.
KAWASAKI On the Kawasaki, Garrett Gerloff had an excellent weekend marred only by a DNF in the Sprint Race when he was taken out by an overly ambitious Baldassari. Aside from that misfortune, Gerloff qualified in eighth and finished in fifth in Race One and whilst his eighth-place finish in Race Two might not look so impressive, it’ s worth noting that being punted off in the Sprint Race relegated him to eleventh on the grid for Race Two, so it’ s a better result than it might appear on paper.
BIMOTA Axel Bassani, Alex Lowes’ teammate at Bimota, had a muted weekend by his recent standards. He recovered well from his poor qualifying to finish eighth in Race One but sixteenth and last across the line in Superpole gave him no points from that race and a lot of
