PADDOCK PEOPLE
strong till the end, you can learn a lot about yourself in that time. The anticipation of an all-in, dead-engine start is killer. The scenery is nearly always pretty spectacular at those races as well.
IS THERE ANYTHING YOU’ D LIKE TO DO ON THE BIKE? It would be nice to beat my old foe Brandon Hoskins in a major series. Maybe T-bone him once or twice. Tuck him in, goodnight. Make up for a few years of losses!
RACE DAY FOOD? Carbs and sugar baby, let’ s go!
WHAT DOES MOTORCYCLING IN THIS COUNTRY NEED? I think we could do with a few more people giving back to the sport. If you’ ve grown up having fun riding bikes, enjoying trail rides and races, I think it’ s partly your responsibility to make sure those same opportunities are around for future generations to enjoy like you did. Every now and again you should go to the working bee at your local track and ask the trail ride organisers if they need help de-arrowing. If you see some fallen bunting or someone stuck on a local trail ride, pick it up or give
them a push and a point in the right direction, get a lesson from the local coach, etc. If you’ re a motocross rider, go and try a cross country. If you’ re an enduro rider, go and try a club day. If you’ re a trail rider go and try a race. If you already do those things, thank you! What we need less of is a bit more of a tricky one, as we have it pretty good here in terms of dirt biking in NZ. Maybe a bit less tall poppy syndrome. There is plenty for everyone.
FAVOURITE PLACE TO RIDE? Woodhill Sandpit’ s yellow tracks after a fresh groom and heavy rain- they are hard to beat!
AS SOMEONE WHO’ S BEEN‘ AROUND THE BLOCK’, WHAT IS THE WORST HAIR CUT YOU’ VE HAD? Something about the interviewer, a pot, a kettle, and the colour black springs to mind here …
ANY THANKS? The list of everyone would be way too long( thank you all), but some key people are; Smiley from Extreme Motorsports, Daryll and Liam from Workshop Graphics, Greg and Chris from Power Adventures, and last, but not least, my Dad.
