DIRT NEWS

YOUNG GUNS ON FIRE

The New Zealand Mini Motocross Nationals were epic. Held at the Amisfield MX Track in Tokoroa, the riders ranged from 4-11 years of age and were piloting machines from 50-140cc in the different classes. On the sidelines were a bunch of wellknown riders who are also parents of some of the stars of tomorrow on the track. Relegated to spectator status, it is always good to see the passion for the sport being passed down to the next crop of racers. Also great to see was the sharing of skills and knowledge among those experienced riders, giving assistance to those parents who are just learning the game – just awesome. The South Waikato Motorcycle Club had the track in great condition and worked tirelessly in tricky weather to keep things in order for the riders and the youngsters really put on a show

with the jumps, berms and passing making it fun to watch. The standard of riding in the classes was amazing and enthralled the sidelines. It is a given that many of the future talents were out there on track and the sport is on track, as it were, to build on the solid reputation Kiwis have on the world stage. To the youngsters who were racing, what a fabulous display not just of racing but enthusiasm for the sport, respect for your fellow racers and just the attitude that made the Nationals so great. Even the podium comments from the riders were on point, enjoying their results, acknowledging their rivals( who are often friends) after the race and the general demeanour of these young athletes was an absolute highlight.
