trees , and spring growth everywhere . Parsons Road was a particular favourite , and then further south and west along Lake Whakamaru before coming out on Wairakei Road in Taupo thermal country . The weather was a treat , no rain , lots of sun and smiling faces . Leaving the local BP , we headed north and east , winding through cattle country , and eventually on to Goudies Road – where the land speed records have been held , but our crew was very responsible . Winding back and forth , we arrived at Pukemara Bike Park for a quick sausage , and then back aboard for a fang out to Murupara , Lake Aniwhenua , and then a hiccupping speed limited area , as we traversed lakes Rotoma , Rotoehu , Rotoiti and back to Hells
Gate and the Ranch . While not difficult , we had a couple of hiccups where the route didn ’ t quite make sense , but GPS users flew by showing us the way , and we found the missing Tahuna Rd turnoff 49km later . We arrived back to a superb dinner and bit of rugby on the big screen . It was an exceptional event and credit to Pete McPhee and the Kiwi Rider supporters who help BMW stage this every year . It was a great success and only one casualty when off-camber gravel got the better of him . Every rider but one made it back well and happy . Thanks to the sponsors , BMW Motorrad NZ , the BMW Motorcycle Club Aotearoa NZ , Metzeler Tyres , Submachine and Kiwi Rider .
