Mountain . After joining the throng of riders partaking of the sausage sizzle to gird their loins , I took advantage of the empty , freshly graded track , which was literally as good as it gets , to spin a couple of laps before the Rhinos arrived , fresh from the Benny Bee ’ s watering hole . Thankfully there were no incidents on the track , other than the panniers of our video guy , Phillipe Crottet , ripping themselves out of their mounts . Clearly BMW ’ s R1150GS designers didn ’ t take into account riding with full luggage on a motocross track ... After waiting to clear the track of riders and lock the gate at 5pm , there wasn ’ t the time for me to finish the gravel route , so it was a quick dash back to Lakes Ranch for a welcome beer , dinner and the prize-giving . An incredible amount of work goes into making the BMW GS Rallye the event it is . A big shout out goes to Pete ‘ Vege ’ McPhee ( putting on two great routes and all the mahi behind the scenes to make the GS Rallye happen ), Sean Clarke ( fantastic forestry access and stunning Challenge section breakouts ), Dennis , OJ and the BMW team ( upping the style with BMW test rides , a fantastic marquee , event signage , t-shirt design and gift bags ), Steve Parkinson ( all the delicious smoked meats we had on Friday night ), Ben and Grant Townley ( their fantastic Pukemara Dirt World trails ), Metzeler and Forbes
