me look ”. We swung a € 10 note in his direction upon delivering us safely and without any bad French words thrown at us . As it turned out , we were allowed to do so , but at the time I was hoping that Mangu and Kiwi would not be recognised sitting proudly on the back .
CAVE VILLAGE After saying Au Revoir to our lovely host promising we would return next year , we headed off to Comprégnac and the village of Peyre which is a cave village , nestled in the cliff with narrow alleys . This small hillside village lived up to its reputation of being among the most beautiful villages of France . The reason for our stay here was brought about because of its locality to the Viaduc de Millau ( The Millau Viaduct ) which is a multi-span cable-stayed bridge completed in 2004 across the gorge valley of the Tarn near ( west of ) Millau in the Aveyron department in the Occitanie Region , in Southern France . This was a bridge that Kel desperately wanted to visit and our accommodation exceeded our expectations as it was not only close , but it had panoramic views of the Viaduc de Millau and the Tarn River . This home was also a 16th century village house , which had been completely renovated and , once again , the host allowed us to park in their car park opposite the home . By now our fellow travellers were asking us whether it was possible for the trip to get any better or would the rest of the trip be an anti-climax . Our answer was “ you ’ ll have to wait and see ”. We stayed the final night in a hotel before reaching our destination of Biarritz - where we had planned on meeting Laurent and the final couple joining us for the remainder of the trip . As we headed south towards the Atlantic coast , we slightly changed our planned route to join two of our French riding friends whom we had ridden with through the Alps in 2023 for lunch near Toulouse .
