The Tokoroa MotoSprint 2024 , held on September 8 , 2024 , was a groundbreaking event in New Zealand ’ s motorsport history , marking the country ’ s first sprint race format MiniGP event . Hosted at the Tokoroa Kart Track under mostly sunny skies , the day featured a crisp wind that kept riders on their toes . Powercorsa Motorsport organised the event , which drew 21 entries across three classes ( Senior Mini GP , Junior Mini GP , and Open 190cc ). In the Senior MiniGP class , superbike champion Mitch Rees secured first place , followed by Chris Defiri and Jordon Burley .
In the Junior MiniGP , Nixon Frost took the top spot , with Nicolas Hyslop and Tye Knight completing the podium . Tyler King dominated the Open 190cc class , finishing ahead of Dylan Byran and Mitch Rees . A key highlight of the day was the “ Have a Go ” experience , where eight young riders , lucky enough to book early , had the chance to test their skills on 150cc mini bikes , fuelling the excitement of future talent in the sport . With the combination of low running costs , sealed engines to stop modification , relative low speeds which reduce injuries , perhaps this is a cheap way to ride and race .

MiniGP is a cheap but thrill-packed motorcycle racing series for anyone 7 years and up . The bikes are all from Kayo , with sealed engines , helping to keep costs down . Kids and adults can ride the same bike in different classes .
There are four categories : Junior Rookie ( 7-12 yrs 10in 110cc Auto / manual ), Junior Intermediate ( 11-15 yrs 10in or 12in 160cc ), Senior 160 ( 16 + yrs 10in or 12in 160cc ) and Senior 190 ( 16 + yrs 12in 190cc ).
