TIDY UP THAT TAIL
Always looking for ways to pimp his ride , Ray Heron slims up the back end of his MT-07 . Words & Photos : Raymond Heron
I enjoy change . The humdrum same old bores me to tears . So , when I got a call from Dato Racing parts offering me the chance to update the look of my Yamaha MT-07 , I jumped at the offer . The owner Aaron Hughes had seen my MT07 in an issue of Kiwi Rider , and thought it looked a little “ standard ”, so made a call to one of his suppliers , Italian brand Melotti Racing , and secured a tail tidy , two sets of LED indicators , an LED numberplate Light , and two sets of bobbins .
FITTING The tail tidy is constructed of light alloy , with counter sunk hex-head screws . Essentially a grown up Meccano set . The indicators have some weight to them because they are made of metal instead of the plastic factory items , and they ’ re substantially smaller and brighter than the factory kit . Having never pulled the rear end of my MT-07 apart before , I allowed myself a good three hours to complete the job , first removing the pillion and main seat before moving on to the rear cowling . Hex-head bolts and clip on plastic fairings out of the way I managed to locate the four bolts holding on the factory tail assembly to the chassis of the bike . There didn ’ t seem to be any way to unplug the factory indicators , so with a single tear
