After a few years of riding gear failure , Ray Heron has been winter testing Hevik ’ s Titanium suit . Words : Raymond Heron | Photos : Troy James Creative
I f your bike gear has a certain odour that just won ’ t come out , the zip has burst from that persistent extra lockdown weight , the domes don ’ t dome ... or the crotch is leaking , then it might be time to look at some new gear . If you ’ re anything like me , you will have been putting it off for a while . My old gear is at least three years beyond its best by date , but the thought of going to shop after shop , trying on gear , being disappointed at what doesn ’ t fit or is overpriced , and then being reminded you ’ re a bit thicker around the mid-section than you used to be ... well , to be honest , it all just seemed like a bit too much hard work . I ’ ve basically been keeping on keeping on for quite a while . So , when EuroBike Wholesale asked me to take a ride around the block in their newest brand of gear , Hevik , well , I jumped at the chance .
The Hevik Titanium R jacket and pants arrived on my doorstep the week we went back into COVID-19 level 1 , which was beautiful timing , as that was the week I re-started my daily commute into the office . I was quickly impressed with the fit , although the sizing is a little on the small side , I ’ m usually just an XL , but the 2XL jacket and pants were the ones needed to fit me perfectly - bloody European sizing . Both the jacket and pants have three layers each , a thermo layer , water proof layer , and the outer shell , which also provides some waterproofing . The thermo and waterproof layers are removable , leaving you with a protective outer shell for summer / warm weather riding .
