BMW F450GS REVEALED IN THE METAL

BMW has always been a powerhouse in the adventure market, mainly in the bigger capacity classes of late. Now, their intentions are clear in the 450-ish ballpark as well. Enter an entirely new bike from Bavaria. The latest twin from BMW is actually 420cc and it puts out 48hp( and 43Nm), sitting right at the upper limit of what is permitted in our LAMS market. Sure to be a good seller for those heading through the process of getting their full licence, this new entrant is also going to appeal to those wanting a nimble off-road option that copes well as a general purpose ride as well. And if you were thinking that the smaller GS was going to have a reduced electronic suite, as is common practice in the small to mid-size marketplace, think again. The new F450GS not only has all the goodies, like cornering sensitive ABS but, coming in four variants, things like seat height, screens, wheels and graphics are all covered. There has been some serious homework done in BMW Motorrad land, that is obvious. One standout option is this new model is the BMW Easy Ride Clutch( ERC), an innovative evolution of the centrifugal clutch. Combined with an up and down quickshifter( Shift Assistant Pro), the ERC eliminates the need to use the clutch lever when riding. It is still there should you want to hoist the front over a log but even then, it helps things happen smoothly. Available as an option in some variants, others have the regular system – also with that bidirectional quickshifter. Choosing which version you need is simply asking where you will be going and how hardcore your adventures will be. With a myriad of modes available, right up to Enduro Pro on the Exclusive model, the ABS, TC, MSR( engine braking) can all be set to suit.
