HORSE TALK

I

’ ve been through Beausdesert on a horse with a name. It would have been perfect if America’ s 1971 classic tune‘ A Horse with No Name’ had turned up on my playlist while riding the bike through the South East Queensland town. But alas, it did not, and anyway, this horse has a name. Two names in fact: the‘ Indian Pursuit Dark Horse with 112 Package’, as per its title on the Indian website, or‘ The Pursuit of Happiness’, as I christened it. Nomenclature like no other. I’ d ridden the Indian Challenger back in 2020 and rated it very highly. Now I was keen to gauge the improvements in this latest
54 KIWI RIDER incarnation, which is essentially the same machine, but with added-extra bodywork and luggage, and upgraded‘ everything’, including a new high-performance powerplant. OK, maybe not so‘ essentially’. The Tyalgum loop would provide some answers, or so I thought, and I planned to repeat the ride I’ d done on the Challenger six years prior. And, as per the song, it has hills and rings and things … well, rims- the Scenic Rim Region- and some favourite photo stops. Some of the terrain is North Island-ish, and the rainforests are reminiscent, as it runs along the ramparts of an ancient massive Volcanic explosion.
