THE STARK VARG DEBATE The emergence of electric motorcycles such as the Stark Varg presents new challenges for event organisers. Riders like Mark Horwell cannot complete the full course on a single battery charge, necessitating either a battery swap, taking at least 30 minutes, or switching to a second bike. In fact, Mark only had six minutes battery left at the fuel check. This raises concerns among internal combustion engine( ICE) competitors, who argue for equal allowances if bike changes are permitted. Organisers have taken differing approaches; Sean Clarke has required a battery change in his events, while Chris Power took a different approach, allowing Horwell to transfer his rear wheel to a second bike to avoid a tyre advantage, with a time penalty comparable to refuelling. As electric technology evolves, faster battery swaps may resolve this issue. For now, however, it remains an ongoing debate within the sport.
Pre-race briefings. Tim, Trevor, Jordy and Bella.
CREW As with every event, without the massive crew, this event would not have happened. Fortunately, excellent weather made manning the checks that much more enjoyable. With the risk of forgetting someone, here are the names of helpers we roped in to spend their Sunday supporting the sport they love. They are just as important as the competitors as without them there would not be an event. Thanks to Karl, Jono, Jamie, Zoe, Doc, Paul W, Bill, Marty and friend, Kim, Roy, Haley, Larry, Robbo, Tim, Dion, Diane, Lauchlan, Trevor, Bella, Jordy, Sharon, Paul H, John R, the young lady helping John R, Gerred, James, Joelene, Brendon, Dean plus, of course, Chris and Greg Power.
