FEBVRE SEES RED IN SPAIN
Romain Febvre retained the red plate and extended his lead in his aim to retain it. The weather played its part and, after a fine week, race day saw the conditions deteriorate to a muddy mess by day’ s end. Febvre dominated Race One and was looking good for the second outing until he came down and lost a bunch of time and positions. Meanwhile Lucas Coenen, who was second in the first outing, was ahead when Febvre remounted with a lot of work to do. Head down, balancing speed and risk in what had become terrible conditions, the Kawasaki ace kept a cool head and secured a hard-won second placing, just enough to take the round. Tired and covered in mud with all bikes looking eerily similar in the brown coating, Febvre was happy with his fightback and the overall win but looking forward to better racing conditions. By the final laps it looked more enduro than moto but it did show how well some cope and who struggled with the whole deal.
VERONA VICTORIOUS IN SPAIN
GasGas Factory Racing’ s Andrea Verona took out the EnduroGP round in Spain, topping the EnduroGP and Enduro2 standings, a result that sees him second overall in both class standings. Times were close, with the margin from rival Josep Garcia in the penultimate round only being 0.06 seconds, it was all-on in the final test in tricky conditions but the GasGas man pulled out a slender lead that he maintained to claim his first win of the season. With torrential rain adding to the drama, starts were delayed, some tests were eventually canned and it was a test of nerves and patience as much as speed. Verona felt he made too many mistakes but in the end, he made less than anyone else in the challenging conditions and came away with maximum points.
