to a couple of famished motorcyclists, some hot chips hit the spot for dinner that night.

DAY 3: Kerikeri to Coromandel, 516km With the sun shining, we took the opportunity for a quick photo shoot at the Kerikeri Stone Store before our second ferry crossing of the trip from Opua to Okiato, and the Russell-Whakapara road. A hidden gem, this beautifully winding road along the East Coast offers spectacular views and passes some stunning bays before popping back onto SH1 leading to Whangarei. Sadly, it was time to leave the wonderful, winding and enticing Northland roads behind and head south again towards the metropolis of Auckland. Tracking through Maraetai, our course to Miranda was derailed by an unplanned road closure, demanding a slight detour through some Hunua roads instead. Finally, we pulled into Thames and headed up along the winding Coromandel coast road to Shelly Beach just out of Coromandel township. We arrived just before dark and with over 1600km of riding in three days already behind us we were spoilt to have some deluxe glamping pods as our accommodation to rest our weary bones.
DAY 4: Coromandel to Ohope, 316km After a relaxing night’ s sleep in the pods, and a bit of a lie-in, the day’ s route was going to be much shorter than the big 500km rides so far. Riding the second part of the Coromandel Loop
