ADVENTURE RUBBER ON A BUDGET

W hile tyre selection is often a deeply personal affair , with each rider ’ s needs as different as their preferences in underwear , in reality most of us are looking for the same thing from our tyres ... performance and value . With grand plans for some adventurous gravel riding , I was after a set of more knobby tyres for my Honda CRF250L Rally . As I have a small family , value for money is always at the forefront of my mind when it comes to bike consumables , so a set of Shinko Adventure E804 / E805 tyres seemed to fit the bill . Whites Powersports sent us a set through to test . While there is still plenty of life left in my Avon Trailrider tyres that I ’ ve been running on the
Rally , after following Editor Ben down some tougher trails , it became clear that the roadbiased tyres weren ’ t going to cut the mustard for the kinds of rides I had in mind .
TIME FOR A CHANGE The Avon ’ s have been great tyres over the last 18 months , but with my riding time being spent more and more on gravel roads and the odd 4WD track than ever before , I decided to go in search of tyres more suited to rough riding conditions and put the Avons in the shed to be put back on when were spending more time on tarmac again .
