KIWI RACER FULLER HEADS TO UK BSB SERIES
With the road racing season in New Zealand in tatters thanks to the Red Covid-19 setting , Kiwi Zak Fuller is packing his bags and heading for the greener pastures of the United Kingdom in search of fast track times and , just maybe , a little glory . After months of planning and negotiations , Fuller has signed on with Castle Donington based G & S Racing to contest the National Junior Superstock 600cc Championship under the British Superbikes Series . “ Ever since our season stopped here last year in March I ’ ve been trying to get myself over there ”, Fuller tells KR , “ with all our stuff going on here it was sort of a no brainer . “ I ’ ll be riding a 2022 ZX-6R with G & S ”, Fuller continues , “ I haven ’ t run one before , but I ’ m sure it will be the bee ’ s knees by the looks of it . We ’ re gonna have a good package behind me and a really good team . They ’ ve won races in the past and stuff . So , yeah , I ’ m sure we ’ ll have it pretty down pat by the time we go racing .” Fulfilling the international racing dream hasn ’ t been a walk in the park for Fuller , who admits part of the challenge is getting in contact with the right people to start getting doors to open .
“ I hadn ’ t had a lot of options , but then I got in touch with Richard [ Cooper - who rode in the Suzuki Series ] and all these sorts of doors opened , which was awesome . I can ’ t thank him enough for getting in touch with G & S Racing . They look like a really good team too , so it ’ s exciting times , right ?” Fuller will be joining the likes of Damon Rees and Shane Richardson in the paddock and hopes the Kiwi trio will be able to make most of each other ’ s experience to push each other further against the Brits . “ I ’ ve been talking to Damon and Shane . With all of us running 600s we will be able to bounce stuff off each other and , yeah , those boys should be able to give me some tips on how to get around those tracks and stuff like that . And with Shane being a runner up in the stock 600 class , I ’ m sure he ’ s got a few pointers for me .” With restrictions lifting in the UK , Fuller hopes to be in the UK before the first official test of the 2022 BSB season at Snetterton in late March . He ’ ll race into action in the UK for the first time at the BSB National Junior Superstock Championship opener at Silverstone on April 15 .
