serious fun and a real hoot to let it all hang out ! This is not a beginner or intermediate machine , it ’ s a high-power big dirt bike that requires some talent and respect . This is what experienced riders want , at least some of the time , and who cares if you can dissolve a rear tyre in no time ? It ’ s all part of the fun , right ? And , with excellent TC , all the wheel spin can be dialled down to the level of intrusion you desire . Possibly the best of both worlds . KTM say the new PASC anti-hopping clutch is strengthened and the six-speed gearbox action improved – all I can say is that it certainly shifted well . While the power delivery has something for everyone , from mild to wild and everything in between , I got to thinking – does it make better all-round power than the old 990 ? From those who have owned both , I ’ d love your feedback on this .
TECHNOLOGY Of course , the modern world loves technology . A sophisticated Bosch system takes care of the ABS and TC . All selections are made from a multi-button switch on the left handle bar and choices are viewed on the large TFT screen . Also , all relevant information is visible ; speed , fuel , warnings , you name it , it ’ s there . The brakes are serious , twin 320mm discs with four pot calipers . They do the business well up front ; the stopping action is strong with great feel . The ABS works well on road and was not too intrusive when in road mode hitting gravel . I can ’ t say the same for the single rear 260mm disc ABS . In road setting , ABS was too intrusive to the point of it almost being useless , thank goodness you can turn the ABS off when riding offroad . With the ABS turned off , the rear brake works very well . One thing that bugged me was that to turn the TC and ABS off from the home screen took 11 button presses . Yes , 11 ! You can short cut the process by leaving the TC / ABS screen up , but then you don ’ t get
