terrain was quite different and the old church in the middle of absolutely nowhere is very special. That day redefined our expectations; the bar was set; the break outs were to be tried. By this time we had developed a system whereby I could call out “bump” and Karen could rise up on the pegs to lessen the impact on the bike. We thought we had it all figured out... Blasting through B.O.1 I hit a very large- squared edge hole, with no chance to warn Karen. She took the full force of the impact, combined with the swingarm popping back up, in her lower back. We didn’t crash, but weren’t sure how much riding she could cope with over the rest of the day. We took a break in Cromwell, dosed her up on some anti-flam’ and Panadol. Things didn’t improve, but neither did they get any worse, so we carried on the main route missed out B.O.2 and B.O.3 to make up time and headed to B.O.4 (Duffers Saddle) which had a very technical descent.
