terrain was quite different and the old church in
the middle of absolutely nowhere is very special.
That day redefined our expectations; the bar
was set; the break outs were to be tried.
By this time we had developed a system
whereby I could call out “bump” and Karen could
rise up on the pegs to lessen the impact on the
bike. We thought we had it all figured out...

Day
By now we had decided to
do all the break outs. I was
excited to start and we set
off early. Blasting through
B.O.1 I hit a very large-
squared edge hole, with no
chance to warn Karen. She
took the full force of the
impact, combined with the swingarm popping back
up, in her lower back. We didn’t crash, but weren’t
sure how much riding she could cope with over the
rest of the day. We took a break in Cromwell, dosed
her up on some anti-flam’ and Panadol. Things
didn’t improve, but neither did they get any worse,
so we carried on the main route missed out B.O.2
and B.O.3 to make up time and headed to B.O.4
(Duffers Saddle) which had a very technical descent.
We were both glad to have done it.
