is truly silent , the hub motor they ’ ve built is powerful and without the need for belts or drives so there ’ s none of the horrid electric whine . It ’ s also surprisingly comfortable to ride , super light at only 88kg , with full size 18- inch spoked wheels , and a 1370mm wheelbase which feels long and imparts a simply incredible stability for such a weightless machine . It ’ s narrow too , like a pushbike . Suspension is 33mm forks with 90mm travel and coiled springs over dampers to the rear with 60mm of movement . Bumps and humps are handled without the least discomfort , and the 220mm disc brakes are more than adequate . The quality of componentry is amongst the best I have seen on any bike , ever . The side-stand is stainless steel , and so is the spring retaining it . I like the simplicity and functionality of the switchgear , kept to a minimum , but working beautifully . This is a real pleasure to ride , light , zippy , phenomenally stable , and it looks both retro and current .
IN ‘ DOG WE TRUST FTN has a staff of 15 people , and they have set their delivery values at the highest order , and not just in the bike , their merch is top notch too - t-shirts , hoodies , caps and more , the brand is clear and , most importantly , has that indefinable edge of desirability . This is a premium product in a segment that can bear it . Yes , it ’ s around $ 13,000 which is up there , but considering your fuel costs will never be high , and maintenance and servicing largely electronic , a case can be made for truly transforming commuter drudgery with real urban cool . This truly could be a great NZ success story , but , in my opinion , they ’ ll need to maintain their high-quality manufacturing principles and bring the market to them . Value for money ? Yes . I think so . Could Petedog on the Streetdog be a thing ? 100 %. If I could get it off my son ’ s hands . As Rhys said on the day … In Dog We Trust . Go guys ! The world awaits .
