Garrett Gerloff strange’ move. Whilst the contact was brief, it was enough to cause Lowes to crash. Surra is improving as the season progresses, but this wasn’ t the first incident of overly ambitious riding and hopefully it won’ t become a recurrent cause for concern. Even more impressive than Surra and arguably most impressive of the weekend was Garrett Gerloff, the sole official Kawasaki man being the only non-Ducati rider to have any real impact. He was absolutely riding on the limit and his battle with Surra in Race Two was ten laps of edge-of-the-seat racing with Gerloff the better rider but the Ducati giving Surra the platform, especially driving out of corners, to make Gerloff work hard to pass and then work harder to make the pass stick. It’ s of great credit to the American that he stuck to his gameplan and finally managed to hold Surra at bay for fifth place in Race Two and that was after he scored a fourth in Race One and Sixth in the Sprint Race. There is no doubt that Gerloff is a talented rider and knowing that the bike you’ re on isn’ t quite the equal of most of the bikes you’ re fighting with can’ t do your confidence much good but Gerloff could not realistically have done any better at Autodrom Most than he did.
